There is something so beautiful about intuitively and instinctually nourishing yourself through the seasons. Understanding that the body evolves and transitions as the seasons do is a pillar of Ayurveda and the key to maintaining your natural balance- body, mind, and soul.

As we experience winter's fullest expression here in Edmonton, we are entering the season of the Vata dosha where the presence of cold, dryness, movement, and space are abundant and commonly create imbalance. To maintain grounding and vibrancy within your body, using fiery ginger and heating spices like cinnamon and cardamom balanced with the comforting properties of sweet dates, almonds, and ghee to create warm and calming elixirs like this Nourishing Date Tonic will help to soothe and pacify Vata this winter.

Nourishing Ayurvedic Date Tonic

Makes 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 3 Whole Pitted Dates (soaked overnight)
  • 1 cup Almond Milk
  • 1 stick Cinnamon
  • 3 pods Cardamom (cracked)
  • 1 thin slice Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Ghee
  • 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Add almond milk, cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger to a small pot and bring to a gentle boil on medium heat for 6-8 minutes, until aroma is fully released from spices. Remove from heat, strain the milk and let cool slightly. Add milk, ghee, vanilla and dates to blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy the comfort and warmth!
